A Shared Entrepreneurial Spirit

Chances are I’m a lot like you, with an entrepreneurial determination and understanding of the challenges inherent in the world of business. Gallery Systems started small as I worked on the first version of our software for the Ratti Textile Center out of the basement of the Metropolitan Museum of Art over 30 years ago. I had a vision and a passion to provide the finest technologies and services to bring greater operational efficiency, collection management control, and collection accessibility to clients.

First, I needed the right people around me to make it happen. My team at Gallery Systems has grown to consist of experts in the industry, many of them having worked with collections at various institutions before joining us. They bring a deep, hands-on knowledge of cultural collections and the running of institutions. Under this team, our collections management software products have grown to become the most widely used and respected in the industry.

I wanted to step back from the day-to-day operations and focus more on long-term strategies and growth; I also needed an exit strategy for retiring partners. To make this possible, we were acquired by Volaris Group in 2012. They offered a solution in which I could remain fully involved in my company, while getting the financial support and business know-how to grow the business further. Gallery Systems provides these same benefits to companies looking to share in our vast cultural collection knowledge and needing support in their growth strategy.

Jay is a highly respected authority on museum and collections management information systems. As the architect of The Museum System (TMS), Jay has been working on the development, implementation and support of collections management applications for museums and galleries for more than 30 years. Jay founded Gallery Systems in 1981 to address the information management needs of the cultural sector. Jay has been directly involved in information projects at the Smithsonian Institution, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery London and many other museums. He is also active in international standards organizations for improving information access and interchange among museums.
