Post-Conference Workshops

In the two days following CI, attendees can take part in special intensive courses offered exclusively for conference participants. This cost-effective training is the perfect way to fine-tune your TMS abilities and learn new skills.

Laptops are required in order to participate in CI Workshops.

You may use your own laptop, provided:

  • You have local administrators’ rights on your laptop;
  • Your laptop is equipped with an up-to-date web browser (IE9+, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera etc.)

Or, you may request a laptop rental when registering.

Getting Started with Conservation Studio

This hands-on workshop will introduce Conservation Studio’s robust feature set.  It will cover basic functionality like searching and data entry, focusing on the new Conservation Reports module and conservation-specific Object-module features, such as setting environmental requirements and tracking light exposure.  Annotation features will also be discussed.  Additionally, the workshop will cover basic configuration options, such as creating data entry views and mapping fields to specific Conservation Report Types. 

The course is designed for conservators and administrators at museums that have recently adapted Conservation Studio or who are planning to do so.

Collaboration in Conservation Studio: Managing Projects

This hands-on workshop will explore how colleagues with different roles can work collaboratively in Conservation Studio, focusing on the new Projects module and its interaction with TMS.  Projects such as coordinating exhibition-related conservation and managing collection surveys will be explored, including the management of related Conservation Reports.  Interaction between conservators and museum staff working primarily in TMS will be discussed.

Customizing eMuseum: Configuration, APIs, and Templates

Course Fee: $300

This course covers basic template structure and styling with a review of default fields, how to configure them and how to add new ones. We’ll also cover some of the ways eMuseum exposes APIs, handles Search Engine Optimization (SEO), manages Linked Open Data and filtering results.

• You will gain an understanding of the eMuseum structure and a basic understanding of how to modify and style page and component templates.
• You will understand what drives eMuseums field configuration and learn how to manipulate the fields in each view, and how to add new fields.
• You will gain a better understanding of how eMuseum can provide machine readable APIs and data in a Linked Open format.

*This course is best for people with a basic understanding of HTML and/or CSS. Knowledge of SQL and XML are a bonus.

TMS Security

TMS Security controls user access to modules, tables, fields, and functions. TMS Department-level user security has been expanded to modules beyond Objects and Exhibitions in recent versions, now providing Department-level control for access to Loans, Media, and Events. This course will cover the intricacies of configuring security groups and setting Overall and Department-level security to user accounts. In addition to covering the mechanics of Security Configuration, this workshop will give pointers for developing an overall plan for the security levels required for your institution’s TMS implementation.

This hands-on workshop is recommended for Curators, Registrars, TMS database managers, and TMS database administrators.
