Guide online visitors through a virtual tour of your collection with eMuseum.

eMuseum is a web-based software program that integrates seamlessly with TMS and other collection management systems to dynamically publish information to your website, Intranet, and kiosks.

With eMuseum, you can:

  • Engage visitors with tools for creating personal groupings of favorite works
  • Educate your community with online exhibitions and detailed information about works
  • Entertain your audience through multi-media representations of works in your collection

eMuseum comes with a standard set of display templates that you can customize to match the look and feel of your website. The program takes a “snapshot” of records from your collection management system and publishes it online. Additionally, eMuseum’s simple, yet powerful “refresh” capability makes sure your published data remains up-to-date.

eMuseum 4.0 gives you complete control over what data is published and allows you to target specific audiences:

  • eMuseum 4.0 provides your audience with a view into your collection, while you maintain complete control over how collection records are grouped and displayed
  • eMuseum 4.0 can be configured to reach different audiences and non-public data can easily be restricted to only authenticated internal users
  • Any digital media can be published to eMuseum 4.0 and you control who has access to this media. Since eMuseum 4.0 is dynamic, your site is ensured to be up-to-date with the latest data you wish to publish

Using the popular and powerful Apache Lucene search indexing platform, eMuseum 4.0 delivers search results to
end-users lightning fast with no additional administrator confi guration required:

  • Quick Search: Users can easily search across a vast number of fields from different modules (e.g. Objects and People) using Quick Search feature
  • Advanced Search: Provides a more fine grained search interface to allow users fi elded searching, including the publication of controlled authority lists (e.g. Object Classifications)
  • Convenience: The list of searchable fields is completely configurable by you
  • Flexibility: Results can be returned by configurable aggregation criteria allowing you full control over how initial results are returned and the end-user the ability to see a convenient summary of their results
  • Targeting: Language specific “analyzers” can be added to eMuseum to improve query parsing for specific target audiences (e.g. Japanese)

eMuseum offers several ways to share related data by configurable criteria, providing for a more serendipitous end-user experience and the opportunity to expose information that might otherwise remain hidden from your audience.

  • Configurable “Relationships” allow you to easily expose related items based on any criteria
  • “You May Also Be Interested In…” link can be configured to expose your audience to additional objects
  • Biographical information about artists/makers
  • Module inter-relationships allows users to navigate between Objects and People related to those objects or Exhibitions and the specific Objects within those Exhibitions

eMuseum allows you to expose digital media in a variety of ways and formats with minimal confi guration required:

  • eMuseum 4.0 can publish digital media related to your collection in any format including: JPG, DOC, PDF, and SWF
  • One or more digital media can be exposed per record
  • Configuration options allow you to control the size of images displayed
  • Access level controls provide granular control over which audience members see which images or even which sizes of images
  • Automated watermarking feature allows you to point to a watermark file (i.e. transparent GIF) and have the selected watermark applied to any or all of your images. The image that is rendered to the end-user includes the watermark and therefore your images are safe
  • Integration with popular image servers is easy using the provided configuration template

eMuseum has many rich end-user features with complete fl exibility for additional features:

  • The myCollection feature allows users to create their own grouping of records based on whatever criteria they desire
  • Users can share their myCollections with others and even allow others to edit a shared myCollection. This offers a great opportunity for internal collaborative efforts or an external education tool
  • Users can add/edit notes about particular works or about a myCollection as a whole
  • myCollections are secure, so you control which objects are accessible to users and can even prohibit users from entering specific terms that you do not want to have published back to your site
  • The powerful and popular JavaScript libraries – Scriptaculous and Prototype are included by default within eMuseum allowing for rich customizations to the user interface
  • eMuseum 4.0 is fully accessibility compliant
  • With Crystal Reports, eMuseum offers the ability for you to design custom reports that the end-user can then generate in PDF format based on their search results
  • Configurable profiles allow you to expose different audiences to different types of data as appropriate

eMuseum 4.0 uses popular web navigation features and views, including:

  • Three ways to view data with related digital media – Details, Light Box, and List Views
  • Breadcrumbs for easy navigation based on previous searches or visited pages
  • Ability for users to confi gure the number of items displayed per page within the List View
  • An automatically generated list of “Artists” allows users to easily search or browse across the available “Artists”represented in your collection
  • Skins/themes allow you to easily change the look of your site and can be used as a starting point for your own unique customization
  • eMuseum uses XHTML templates with CSS for standards based presentation giving you complete flexibility to tailor the design of your site

eMuseum 4.0 has built in site administration options, including:

  • Automated refreshing of publication data
  • Powerful search term indexing
  • Search statistics using keyword search tracking or your own Google Analytics code
  • Error reporting to a subscribed administrator e-mail address
  • Configurable “prohibited words” list to prevent users from entering profanities on shared screens
  • User Management tools to defi ne access rights for users
  • Support for application server clustering ensures that eMuseum is scalable based on your site’s demand

eMuseum 4.0 is a completely Java based solution, therefore it can be hosted on any server operating system. This gives you more options and the potential to reduce your cost of ownership.

eMuseum 4.0 currently supports the following database platforms, but can easily be re-configured to support additional platforms as required.

eMuseum can be used against Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle 10g and higher, MySQL 5.x.

The Standard License is designed for institutions that only need to publish information from two “modules.” A module is a grouping of information such as “objects” or “people.”

Benefits of the Standard License:

  • Configurable keyword and advanced search options: Allows visitors to search on criteria that is appropriate to your collection
  • Links between diff erent module records: Provides easy navigation between related records
  • Cross module searching: A single search provides users with results from which they can select the ones they want
  • Controlled publication of digital media assets: Ensures that the public only sees media with appropriate copyrights
  • Special groupings of items: Highlight parts of your collection based on criteria defined by you
  • Web display options: Commonly used display such as light box, text list and single-record detail views, offering users a variety of ways to explore works in the collection
  • Powerful client-side reports: Allows users to print information on objects, with or without images, in PDF format
  • Password-controlled, role based access-level security: Gives you the option to allow or prohibit access to data and digital assets for search and display. Provide access to the whole collection for your staff and selective information to the public.
  • An unlimited number of “profiles”: A “profile” is a template that defines how the published data will be displayed to different audiences. For example, an object module may have two profiles: a public view and an internal view.

The Developer License is designed for institutions that want total flexibility. With the Developer License, there is no limit to the number of modules from which you can draw data for display. In addition, you can create any number of profiles to provide different views of data within each module.

Benefits of the Developer License:

  • All of the features available in the Standard and Extension License levels
  • An unlimited number of modules: Ability to publish data from multiple modules such as object, bibliography and exhibition records. Publish and publicize your exhibitions.

NOTE: The Developer License does not provide access to the source code of the compiled eMuseum components.
