Bilingual Access to Austrian Art
Revel in the world’s finest collection of Austrian art at Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, one of the most celebrated museums in Vienna, displayed online through their eMuseum site. To offer greater access to their online collections, the museum provides bilingual navigation and object data in German and English, supported by the Unicode feature in eMuseum.
A Palace Museum of Masterpieces
The Österreichische Galerie Belvedere is situated inside Austria’s iconic Belvedere palaces, once the summer home of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736). Inside the museum, visitors are treated to a world-class permanent collection, featuring work by Enlightenment sculptor Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, Expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka, and the largest single collection of work by famed symbolist Gustav Klimt.
Many of these priceless works are viewable online through the Belvedere’s eMuseum site. Designed to match their existing website through a “look and feel” customization, the site highlights such well-known paintings as Klimt’s Der Kiss (The Kiss), whose online object record is enhanced by an audio guide in German and a video guide in Austrian sign language.
Exploring Art in Greater Detail
To showcase an unprecedented level of visual detail, the eMuseum collection photos are viewable with a IIIF reader, allowing online visitors to perform deep zooms and see objects in a whole new way.
